Carex know that life in general is both busy and eventful, particularly if you have small children around. Encouraging people to understand one of the most basic hygiene practises, handwashing, can be a challenge. Putting it into practise, even more so!

We know that you care about your own and your family's health and as experts in hygiene and handwashing, Carex would like to share with you some useful advice on good hygiene practice for all the family.

With the help of the Squirts, little helpers from Carex who will make handwashing more memorable and fun, take a look at our tips as to when, where and how you should be washing your hands.

When should you wash your hands?

Wash your hands before you...

  • Prepare or eat food
  • Treat a cut or a wound

Wash your hands after you...

  • Go to the bathroom
  • Handle uncooked foods, particularly raw meat,
    poultry or fish
  • Change your children's nappies
  • Blow your nose, cough or sneeze
  • Play with your pet animals
  • Play/Work in the garden
  • Take out the rubbish

How should you wash your hands?

  • Use warm, running water and a carex gentle antibacterial hand cleansing product
  • Wash all surfaces thoroughly, including wrists, palms, backs of hands, fingers and under fingernails
  • Rub hands together for at least 10 to 15 seconds
  • Make sure you rinse your hands thoroughly before drying
  • That your lovable family pet can be a carrier of bacteria
  • That bacteria occur naturally in water, food, soil, the air, and even on your skin
  • That the number of germs on your fingertips doubles after using the toilet
  • That around 17% of women and 31% of men confess to not washing their hands regularly after using the toilet
