Theme and handwashing occasion: Caring for Pets and other Animals
The Pets and Animals activities have been developed to provide pre-school children with an opportunity to learn about living things, consider how animals should be cared for and to talk about their own experiences.
Children will learn the importance of washing their hands AFTER touching or caring for animals.
The downloadable pages include everything you need to deliver a fun filled session including: Stimulus rhyme, story or game as a means of introducing handwashing. Theme based exploration and discovery activity suggestions. Source photocopiable template or colour photocards.

Personal, social and emotional development
Show care and concern for others and living things. Make connections between different parts of their life experience.

Question why things happen and give explanations. Respond to simple instructions.
Knowledge and understanding of the world
Show curiosity and interest in the features of living things. Describe and talk about what they see. Comment and ask questions about the natural world.
Physical development
Show an awareness of their own needs in regard to eating, sleeping and hygiene.
Creative development
Based on imaginative play and role play. Based on their first hand experiences.
