Microbiology and the way our skin works can be complicated, but knowing a bit about skin can help us to keep clean and protected. Some bacteria live on our hands without causing problems, but when you come into contact with large numbers of bad germs that survive on your hands, (especially if your hands are warm, moist and unwashed) these can be transferred from your hands to your mouth and this can cause illness. It’s worth bearing in mind, while it takes at least 10,000 Salmonella cells to make you ill, certain types of E.coli require only 10 cells to cause disease. Don’t worry, the more dangerous forms of E.coli are very rare, but it’s well worth washing your hands just in case.
pH levels
The skin on your hands is naturally acidic, between pH4 and pH6, and this natural acidity is your skin’s way of keeping bacteria in check. The ingredients found in Carex, mimic the body’s own acidity regulation which helps it to kill bacteria. The mild detergents that are also found in Carex hand wash will then help to wash away bacteria when used with hot water and rubbing your hands together.
