


Hand washing is important because it is the best way to stop the spread of icky, horrible germs!
During the day we pick up horrible, icky germs through contact with people and touching surfaces, like desks and toilets. Although this is perfectly normal it is important to wash hands regularly to stop these naughty germs getting from your hands to your mouth and making you ill.
It is really important to wash your hands regularly and properly so us clever Squirts have put together some handy hints to help you remember when, and how, to wash your hands.
Make sure you wash your hands when they are noticeably dirty for example, when you have been playing outside or cooking. We have also put some really easy to follow hints and a fun song, for the little ones, to help you make sure you wash you hands properly.
Dry skin can be uncomfortable and is not very nice to look at but by following some simple steps you can make sure you have perfect paws.
Avoid using very hot water when you wash your hands (ouch!) and dry your hands properly with a clean towel. If your job means that you wash your hands frequently then using a hand lotion will keep your hands feeling lovely and soft.
Hand gels are a brilliant way to kill germs on your hands, but they should not replace normal hand washing, ideally you should use both antibacterial hand wash and hand gel as part of your daily routine to make sure your hands are germ free.
Hand gels offer a great alternative to hand washing if you cannot get to a sink, but in hospitals especially, you should always wash your hands whenever you can as this is the best wash to get rid of horrible germs that can make you ill. For really messy jobs they can be used after hand washing when you want really clean hands!
